Few studies have looked at the relationship between vitamin D in the blood and risk of NHL.
A study of Finnish smokers found an inverse correlation between 25(OH)D and incidence of NHL for cases diagnosed within seven years of blood draw, but not for longer times1.
A recent pooled study from ten individual studies found no correlation between prediagnostic serum 25(OH)D and NHL incidence for ranges from <10 ng/mL to >40 ng/mL2.
A case-control study in New York did not find any correlation between prediagnostic serum 25(OH)D levels, although the same study found an inverse correlation with respect to past but not present UV irradiance3. As mentioned, a reason for the discrepancy between ecological studies and observational studies is that the beneficial effect of vitamin D might occur both early and throughout life.
